Wailua Beach

Wailua Beach is 13 miles (25 minutes) from Lihue Airport. It is a large, windy beach with no facilities or lifeguards. The Wailua River feeds into the beach with the result that the water is very often murky. There is limited roadside parking. There are strong currents and forceful waves breaking on the sandbars. The conditions are not suitable for swimming unless you are an experienced ocean swimmer.


But, don’t be discouraged by the above, it is definitely worth a visit. Surfers enjoy the wind-swells offered by this beach. It is also a lovely spot to watch the sunrise. The river offers more activities; it is Kauai’s most popular kayaking destination. Up the river you will come across, amongst other things, the remains of an ancient Hawaiian village, waterfalls and the lush vegetation and exotic birds. Experience the overwhelming feeling of total peace while enjoying the beauty that surrounds you.
