Prince Kuhio Beach

Twelve miles (30 minutes) from Lihue Airport, Prince Kuhio beach is a great spot for snorkeling, especially in calm winter conditions and it is rated as one of the best. The beach itself is small and at times there is almost no sand, so not the best place to laze around. Strong currents and waves breaking onto reefs and ledges prevent swimming; but during summer you could see some world class surfing here. Queens and Canoes are famous surf sites at this beach.


There are facilities and a good restaurant available, no lifeguards. Named after a very popular Hawaiian prince who opened his property to the public, you will find lots of interesting historical landmarks here. Parking is on the roadside. A beautiful sunset awaits you if you stay late enough.
