Mahaulepu Beach

If you want to get away from the crowds there is no place better than the unspoilt, rugged beauty of Mahaulepu beach. This area is a research site; the habitat for endangered plant and animal species and a sacred area for native Hawaiians. You can only access the beach from private land and may be asked to sign in and produce identification.

On the western front the waters are sometimes calm and good for swimming and snorkeling, but there are strong currents. It’s often windy and even experienced surfers need to be careful, listen to the locals, they know what they are talking about! Explore the undeveloped coastline for many miles, drinking in the untouched beauty, walking on soft, white sand, the ocean like sapphire. There are no lifeguards or facilities at Maha’ulepu, it’s an hour’s drive from Lihue Airport (16 miles.)
