Lydgate State Park

Lydgate State Park is a great destination for families; only 8 miles (30 minutes) from Lihue airport. Conditions are mostly calm and swimming can take place in 2 lagoons almost every day of the year. There is also a boulder enclosed pool keeping large waves out while still letting in fresh water and fish.


A haven for children – on offer is a large grass field, the Kalamani playground across the beach, bike paths and covered picnic tables. Plenty of parking and bathrooms in 3 locations as well as lifeguards makes this the most equipped beach park in Kauai.


The sandy and grassy shoreline is protected by rocky jetties. Currents are strong and the waves breaking on the outer reefs are very powerful. Sharp coral and slippery rocks calls for caution. This is not your ideal surfing and body boarding beach. During calm conditions swimming and snorkeling is safe and the water beautifully clear. Snorkelers will enjoy a wide variety of fish.
