Kealia Beach
A firm favorite with surfers and boogie boarders, Kealia Beach offers great surf, there is almost always a wave to catch. The sand bar is continually changing, creating exciting conditions for those who know their stuff in the water. During the summer months, when conditions are calm it’s a great place to swim. But, always check the conditions first, there are strong currents, including rip currents and waves breaking directly on the sandbars.
Kealia Beach means “salt bed”; in earlier days Hawaiians would gather salt that formed on the sand flats. The half-mile long beach has soft, white sand and the water is beautifully clear. The beach is also popular for jogging and other recreational facilities. New restrooms and sheltered picnic spots where erected in 2008, and there is a lifeguard on duty during the holiday season. Respect the locals, this is called a “locals” beach.
