Anahola Beach Park, North Shore
You will find Anahola Beach Park midway between Kapaa and Hanalei, an hour and a half’s drive from Lihue airport. It is designated as a Hawaiian Homeland for the local people. A protected reef on the far-east end of the beach allows great swimming most of the year. White sand with shady trees and crystal blue water provide great conditions for families. The reef also provides excellent snorkeling conditions and is a great spot when you want to learn scuba diving. Board surfing is only allowed at the north end.
There are restrooms, picnic facilities and lifeguards on duty during weekends and holidays. This park is a favorite of the local residents and Anahola gives you the best taste of Hawaii’s local flavor. Be aware of the occasional strong currents, high surf and as everywhere in Kauai, the rocks are slippery and the coral sharp.
